Only less deserved, because J.J. Abrams just fits lens flares in films, whilst Michael Bay attempts to fit films between explosions.

And it looks like we have some names to faces.

The numbers have a meaning apparently, so we're probably getting 100 of these cards.

And what would happen if Nicolas Cage had a role?

DOUBLE FUCKING POST BECAUSE WHO CARES!!

The opening shot of the downed X-Wing and Star Destroyer (which looks they have been there for a long time) was epic.

Just hearing the opening part of the score puts a smile on my face and the little nods to the past (plus how can you not grin when you hear the infamous TIE Fighter screech?)...

Word around the campfire is that the new Star Wars Battlefront game will have a DLC package directly linked to Episode VII; specifically the battle that leads to the downed X-Wing and Star Destroyer seen at the beginning of the recent trailer.

That trailer makes me consider watching the other Star Wars films for the first time just because it looks cool. But then I think eh, Star Wars, can I sit through those movies after never watching them? Probably not.

You've got 7-8mths to watch the first six movies, so that's not even one per month. Plus, you have the benefit of watching the prequels first, so seeing the saga in chronological order as well as getting the worst ones out of the way first.

Its not a time thing, its a can I be assed to sit though whats probably 12-14 hours of something that I dont really have an interest in and that I already pretty much know the jist of the story so the big reveal is already spoiled. The new trailer looks great though so I'm wondering if I can watch the new film without having to have seen the others and still enjoy it seeing as I have a pretty good idea of whats already happened.

I reckon so, there'll be plenty of stuff in there to keep the Star Wars nerds happy, but I imagine you'll be perfectly fine to watch Episode 7 without watching the others. I can't see them alienating new viewers by making it too heavy on the back referencing.

You could just read the "Plot" section on each of the Wikipedia entries for the individual films and be up to speed on exactly what's happened, etc.

As you've said; the basic gist of the stories is so well known and ingrained in popular culture, you can walk into this one with all you probably need to know.
